The chemical sector, Germany's third-largest industry that employs roughly half a million workers, continues to struggle as customers are reluctant to place new orders amid prolonged economic uncertainty that has kept raw materials and energy prices high.

For the first half of the year, the chemical industry including pharmaceuticals recorded a 3 percent rise in industrial production – still 11 percent lower than in 2021 – while producer prices dropped 4 percent.
