Maximum fire risk
Around 50 municipalities in eight districts are at maximum risk of fire due to hot weather, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), which has placed the entire continent under orange warning.
At the maximum risk of fire are around 50 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Viseu, Santarém, Bragança, Vila Real, and Guarda.
The highest maximum temperature predicted for today will be reached in Évora, Beja, and Santarém, at 41 degrees Celsius, followed by Braga, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre.
The district of Vila Real will have a maximum temperature of 39 degrees, Bragança 38, Viseu, Coimbra, Lisbon 37, and Faro 36.
The IPMA also placed several municipalities in all districts of mainland Portugal at very high risk of fire.
According to IPMA calculations, the fire danger will remain high in some districts at least until Saturday.
This risk, determined by IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to maximum and calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
Due to the heat, IPMA issued an orange warning for all districts (18) on the continent until 6pm on Wednesday.
The 18 districts are under yellow warning until 09:00 today, then turning to orange until 18:00 on Wednesday, and again to yellow until 18:00 on Thursday.
Minimum temperatures today will range between 17 degrees (in Aveiro) and 26 (in Portalegre) and maximum temperatures between 28 (in Aveiro) and 41 (in Évora, Beja, and Santarém).
