The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve has been hosting the MotoGP World Championship since 2020. The premier class of motorcycling has visited Portugal for four years, but the same may not happen in 2025.
The provisional calendar for the MotoGP World Championship in 2025 has not yet been revealed, but according to Miguel Oliveira, the Portuguese Grand Prix is not included and may be left out.
"Our home GP is very much at risk, which makes me very sad. The Autódromo Administration has made great efforts and the race has also been held with great effort from the regional authorities. As everyone knows, the investment is high, but the return is even higher. And I am perplexed by the lack of government intervention in this case", said the Portuguese rider.
Now, fans are trying to do their part and a petition has been circulating on social media to raise awareness among the government. It states that the amount needed to be financed - nine million euros - will easily be returned with the arrival of thousands of fans in Portugal.
