This artistic intervention, made up of dozens of colourful hexagons worked by hand and requested by the Union of Parishes, “adds a new dimension of beauty and creativity to downtown our city, highlighting the talent and commitment of this group of artisans who dedicated countless hours to this project”.
According to Bruno Lage, president of the União das Freguesias de Faro, “this Parish Council, the Clube da Agulha and the Baixa Commerce Association have come together to transform a simple street into an open-air gallery, symbolising the power of crafts to enrich public spaces and strengthen the sense of community”.
“This collaborative piece of art aims to celebrate the tradition of crochet, a craft with deep cultural roots in Portugal, while also paying homage to manual labour and the importance of keeping traditional arts and crafts alive in the 21st century”.
