From the 21st to the 23rd of October, "there are several dozen films, of all genres, from national to foreign works, on display at a reduced price", reads the statement from the Portuguese Association of Cinematographic Companies (APEC).

Among the Portuguese films that can be seen in different cinemas during these days are "Grand Tour", by Miguel Gomes, "Manga d'Terra", by Basil da Cunha, "O Teu Rosto Será o Último", by Luís Filipe Rocha, “O Vento Assobiando nas Gruas”, by Jeanne Waltz, and “A flor do Buriti”, by Renée Nader Messora and João Salaviza.

"Grand Tour", the award for best direction at Cannes, is the Portuguese film nominated by the Portuguese Cinema Academy (APC) as a candidate for a nomination for Best International Film for the next Oscar and the other features were finalists for this nomination.

Among other works spoken in Portuguese or with Portuguese co-production, on show are also "O Melhor dos Mundos", by Rita Nunes, "Podia Ter Esperado por Agosto", by César Mourão, the documentary by Ramon De Los Santos "Operário Amador" , and the short films “Um Caroço de Abacate”, by Ary Zara, “As Sacrifiques”, by Aurélie Oliveira Pernet, and “By Flávio”, by Pedro Cabeleira, with photography direction by Leonor Teles, brought together under the title "Que Mulheres Serrão Estas".

Also on display are the Brazilian films "Elis & Tom, Só Nunca de Ser Com Você", by Roberto Oliveira, and "Sem Coração", by Nara Normande and Tião.

As part of the partnership with APC, during the Cinema Festival, the winners of the 2024 Sophia Student Award can also be seen, a project that distinguishes the best Portuguese short films made in an academic context: "52 HZ", by Diana Rodrigues, "Défilement" , by Francisca Miranda, "O Incidente da Galinha", by João Ferreira, and "Uma Mãe Vai à Praia", by Pedro Hasrouny.

Cinema City, Cinemas NOS, UCI, Cineplace, Cinebox, Cinemax and Castello Lopes, in addition to Casa do Cinema de Coimbra, Cinema Trindade do Porto, Teatro Miguel Franco, in Leiria, Cinema Fernando Lopes and Cinema Ideal, in Lisbon, are the cinemas who joined this October edition of the Cinema Festival, according to APEC.

The Cinema Festival took place for the first time in 2015, having been interrupted in 2020 and 2021, due to the covid-19 pandemic. This year there was a first edition on May 13th to 15th.

The initiative is organized by APEC, with support from the Cinema and Audiovisual Institute, the Portuguese Association for the Defense of Audiovisual Works and the Association for the Collective Management of Copyright and Cinematographic and Audiovisual Producers.
