Contacted by Lusa agency, José Marquina, from the direction of the EuroPride Lisbon 2025 Association, which is in charge of organising the event, together with ILGA Portugal, indicated that the program “will go far beyond the parade through the main avenues of Lisbon”.

“There will be a conference on human rights, a meeting of young people and many artistic demonstrations and sporting competitions”, he indicated, regarding the project.

It will be the first time that Portugal hosts EuroPride, a European event organised annually by an EPOA member country since its inception in London in 1992. In the United States, the tradition of these parades goes back over 50 years, particularly in San Francisco.

“It is important to hold EuroPride in Lisbon because Portugal has historical links with Brazil, Africa and Asia”, commented José Marquina, also president of Variações – Associação de Comércio e Turismo LGBTQIA+, to Lusa.

The person responsible highlighted that “it is the most important European event in this community and it will not return to Portugal any time soon because there are always many cities from other countries that apply to host this fun and reflective celebration”.

José Marquino indicated that the traditional parade, in Lisbon, should pass through Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, Avenida da República and Avenida da Liberdade, and the various planned activities, presented at the meeting, will take place in cultural spaces in Lisbon such as Cinema São Jorge and the Galveias Palace, among others.

The city of Amsterdam will host EuroPride in 2026.
