“When comparing the first 10 months of 2023 and 2024, general crime in the area of the Lisbon metropolitan command decreased by 9.4%, as for violent and serious crime it also decreased slightly by around 0.2%, which represents stagnation ”, said Luís Elias at the ceremony commemorating the 157th anniversary of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) of the Public Security Police.

The Cometlis commander, who has been in office for around two months, highlighted that “statistical data on recorded crime does not correspond to the feeling of insecurity spread on social media and in certain sectors of public opinion”.

“However, we are cautious as it will only be at the end of 2024 that we will be able to carry out a global analysis and assessment”, he explained.

Cometlis is the largest PSP command in the country where around 6,800 police officers provide services who guarantee the security of around 2.5 million citizens every day.
