Among the Portuguese's favourite names, Maria leads the choices for girls, with 4,295 records. Almost four times more than Alice, chosen for 992 babies, according to the Institute of Records and Notaries (IRN).

The third most prominent name among preferences for girls is Benedita (973), followed by Matilde (942) and Leonor (913).

Closing the top 10 choices are Camila (598), Margarida (586) and Beatriz (551).

On the boys' side, Francisco leads the preferences, with 1,270 records.

The second place on the podium is occupied by Lourenço, with 1040, and the third by Tomás and Vicente, both with 1036. João (1027) and Duarte (1012) occupy fifth and sixth place in the preferences.

Closing the top 10 of male names is Gabriel (851), Miguel (839) and Santiago (782).
