Speaking to Lusa agency, commander Alberto Fernandes of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), specified that 105 incidents were recorded in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region, 84 in the Porto Region and 65 in the Centre.
“The majority of incidents are tree falls (65), structure falls (58), road cleaning (53) and flooding (23),” he said.
“The most serious occurrence was the one recorded on Sunday at 3:45 pm: a wind phenomenon in the Luís de Camões neighborhood in Peniche (Leiria) in which 21 homes suffered damage, but without causing any casualties,” he said.
In the operations recorded between midnight on Sunday and 7am today, 1,001 operators were involved, with the support of 367 ground assets.
The bad weather recorded on Sunday in mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago, with rain and strong winds, was due to the passage of a depression, called Floriane, which, according to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), will still have effects today.
