The Aveiro City Council stated that work on a private university residence on land that the municipality sold considered of privileged location, will cost 12 million euros. In addition to keeping 68 parking spaces on the surface and adding 124 spaces in the basement, the new structure near the hospital and university will enable the installation of 219 student rooms.
As the Mayor of Aveiro Ribau Esteves shared, “This is an action that is part of the Housing Development Plan of the Municipality of Aveiro, which aims to help regulate the housing market in the Municipality, resulting in a significant total private investment of around 12 million euros”.
According to the press release, the primary goal of the operation was to make it possible to build a university house in a prime location, which would increase the market supply for student housing. As the Mayor explained, “It is an operation of high strategic importance, very important for the city and the Municipality of Aveiro”.
The project, which is anticipated to be completed by mid-2026, will also include a 1,306 square meter green space area, a terrace, and a commercial space of 840 square meters for food and beverage.
The parking lots of the old Mário Duarte Stadium and the surrounding lots that are accessible by the Aveirobus public transportation system are suggested by the local government as alternate parking options.
