"All for peace and peace for all", said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The head of state called for peace "in the invaded Ukraine, in war-torn Sudan" and "also in the Middle East, with the hope that the ceasefire will be effective and contribute to a lasting peace agreement that respects the populations, international law, of the United Nations resolutions, namely the establishment of two States."
In his speech, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa alluded to Donald Trump's inauguration in Washington as President of the United States of America, noting: "There are times like this when the rule seems not to be moving in the direction of true peace, but instead a peace that pretends to be something that it is not”.
"There are times like this, but let's not let ourselves be overcome by them," he appealed.
"All for peace and peace for all, no matter how much the realism of this very day whispers in our ears, saying that this is not the time for all peace and peace for all, that today is the time for selfishness, for egocentrism, for sthe uccess of those who think, want and do everything except build true peace", he said.
The President of the Republic argued that "there is no end in History, except the one that is built, here and now, with setbacks and advances and that aims at a better world".
"For this better world, it is always worth fighting, at this time as at all times," he argued.
In this appeal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa demanded that peace be "true and fair", that is, "respectful of human rights, international law, humanitarian law", a "peace that looks at the climate and proposes climate action", and that "cultivates dialogue, tolerance, compromise, the settlement of disputes, multilateralism alongside bilateralism".
"Peace that promotes freedom, participation, the voice of the greatest possible number – and does not concentrate power in the smallest number and, within that number, in those who hold the means and resources that allow them to override rights and rights, dominate States and political powers, to dispose of the world without control of anything or anyone, internal or external, nor any legitimacy", he continued, without targeting anyone in particular.
For the head of state, this "true peace" is one that "thinks about the future and future generations" and "looks at those most excluded, ignored, exploited and omitted".
"Peace that is humble – not arrogant. It is discreet – not ostentatious. It comes from the. It is the fulfilment of each person for others and with others – and not the fulfilment of each person."
I agree with the Portuguese President. Portugal should be extremely wary of Trump, MAGA, and their MAGA, CHEGA!
Are there problems in Portugal? Absolutely! But fascism and oligarchy are not the answers.

It's left-wingers like this who are killing European civilization. In 20 years, Britain, France, and Germany will be caliphates. Then start complaining but it'll be too late by then.
