According to the source from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), the rains “allowed water reserves in the Algarve region to recover from 34% to 41%”.
“Compared to the same period in 2024 [recorded between January 13 and 19], there is an increase of approximately 62 cubic hectometers (hm3) of stored water”.
The recovery was more significant in the dams of the Algarve's Sotavento region, with an increase of 23.4 hm3, while in the Barlavento region, there was an increase of only 7.5 hm3.
According to provisional data provided by APA, in the eastern Algarve, the Odeleite dam is now at 60% of its capacity (77.44 hm3), the Beliche dam at 49% (23.59 hm3) and the Funcho at 40% (18.86 hm3).
In the west region, the Odelouca dam is at 33% of its capacity (51.87 hm3), the Arade dam at 17% (4.77 hm3) and the Bravura dam at 13% (4.64 hm3).
According to the same source, the forecast is that the values “will rise [in the coming days] with the runoff of the rivers”.
