According to Express.co.uk, an analysis by Which? Travel on more than 8,000-holiday deals found that the average cost of summer 2025 packages has increased by 4.2% compared to last year.
Destinations such as Portugal, Italy and Cyprus are seeking some of the steepest price hikes, with costs rising up to 7.4%.
The newspaper cites that a week-long holiday in one of these sought-after destinations could mean tourists could be paying at least 80 pounds more per person. According to Which? Travel, Portugal has seen a 6.8% increase, Cyprus 6.4% and Italy topped the list with a 7.4% rise.
Price Hike
The surge in holiday costs is primarily due to high demand, with travel providers setting prices as high as customers are willing to pay.
Additionally, rising expenses in hotel energy and aviation fuel are pushing prices further up.
Which? Travel also suggested that their findings may reflect an increase in the availability of high-end accommodation and premium board options, such as all-inclusive resorts, in these destinations.
Savings
Despite the rising costs, there are still ways to secure a more affordable summer break.
“Booking early is almost always your best chance of securing the best rate,” said Which? Travel editor Rory Boland. “Now is the best time to get the cheapest prices on summer holidays.”
Opting for an all-inclusive package could also help cut costs, as meals and extras are included. However, travellers should choose their providers carefully, as some may charge additional fees for extras like snacks or premium drinks.
Additionally, flexibility with travel dates can lead to savings. According to Which? Travel, parts of Spain, including the Canary Islands remain some of the most budget-friendly destinations. Traveling in late August or early September can also help keep costs down.
“For families, consider holidaying in the last week of the school summer holidays”, Boland advised. “We’ve found this can be the cheapest week in the peak season.”
