According to the platform's data, and with regard to the most requested dimensions, 23% of requests are for houses between 80 and 100 square metres, 22% between 100 and 130 square metres and 21% between 50 and 80 square metres.
According to the company BuilditNow, which operates in the modular construction sector, this increase in demand was accentuated by the need for faster, more sustainable and economically accessible housing solutions.
“Compared to traditional construction, modular homes offer significantly shorter lead times and can be completed in months rather than years. Furthermore, optimising manufacturing and assembly processes can result in more competitive costs,” explains José Luís Tirado, manager at BuilditNow.
Another advantage highlighted is the predictability of costs and deadlines, since modular construction takes place in a controlled environment, reducing dependence on climatic factors and minimising waste. Additionally, this modality allows for greater flexibility in design, as modules can be customised and expanded as needed.
The company also believes that greater public support for modular construction could accelerate the adoption of this solution and make it even more accessible.
“Although modular construction is already widely used in the United States, Canada and some European countries, in Portugal it is a sector that is still not very prominent. However, the appreciation of sustainability and the need for more efficient housing solutions have driven this trend in the country”, said Alice Nunes, director of New Business at Fixando.
“With the exponential growth in demand, our expectations are that modular construction will consolidate itself as a viable and sustainable alternative for housing in Portugal”.
