One of the licenses, comprising 350 electric scooters and 100 bicycles, was won by operator Lime, while the other license, to operate 350 electric scooters, was secured by operator Bolt.
“Both licenses are valid for a period of two years, in order to guarantee a quality and reference service, without prejudice to their annual renewal, up to a limit of four years”, according to Faro City Council.
“Since 2019, the Municipality of Faro has been developing, as a pilot project, partnership agreements with shared soft mobility operators, based on the increase of these modes of mobility in the municipality's territory. In May 2024, the Municipality's soft mobility regulation came into force, which allowed the introduction of a new regulatory discipline for users of public spaces, determining circulation and parking rules in public spaces for shared-use bicycles (scooters and electric bicycles)", said the city hall.
The same regulation “also came to determine the model to regulate shared soft mobility operators, defining the procedure to be adopted for granting licenses for bicycle sharing activities, as well as the sanctions to be applied to operators in the event of non-compliance with the same regulation, in particular in the event of failure to park these vehicles in the spaces designated for this purpose”.
