"Upon arrival at the scene, the elements of the lifeguard station in Ponta Delgada verified that there were no sea conditions to transport the victim to the lifeboat station and started resuscitation maneuvers on board the fishing boat, having followed the victim to the port of Ponta Delgada”, said the National Maritime Authority, in a press release.
The alert was given at 2:38 pm local time (3:38 pm in Lisbon) and the fishing vessel was “about five miles (approximately nine kilometers) from the port of Ponta Delgada”.
According to the National Maritime Authority, the vessel “docked at the port of Ponta Delgada, where the Ponta Delgada Volunteer Firefighters were located, who continued the resuscitation maneuvers and transported the victim to the hospital in critical condition”.
The elements of the Navy ship “NRP Viana do Castelo”, who were in the port of Ponta Delgada, “collaborated in the mooring of the fishing vessel” and the local command of the Maritime Police of Ponta Delgada took care of the occurrence.
