"The Government approved the increase in the national minimum wage to come into effect from January 1, 2023, to go from the 705 euros we have today to 760 euros", said Minister Ana Mendes Godinho, stressing that this value means that since 2015 the minimum wage has increased by around 50%.

The rise of 55 euros, she said, "is the biggest increase in absolute terms" of the national minimum wage.

In October, under the medium-term agreement to improve incomes, the Government put forward a proposal to increase the minimum wage from the current 705 euros to 760 euros in January 2023.

According to the agreement signed between the Government, UGT, and the employers' confederations, the objective is to reach 900 euros by the end of the legislature (2026).

The Government proposes that the minimum wage evolves to 760 euros in 2023, to 810 euros in 2024, to 855 euros in 2025, and to 900 euros in 2026.
