According to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) 677 people are hospitalised today with Covid-19, 28 fewer than on Monday, 136 of which in intensive care units, 13 less in the last 24 hours.

The area of ​​Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 619 new cases and the North region, with 744, have 71.4% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (7), in the North region (2), in the Algarve (3) and in the Autonomous region of the Azores (1).

Regarding the victims' ages, seven were over 80 years old, four between 70 and 79, one between 60 and 69 and one between 50 and 59 years old.

Regarding the age characterisation of new confirmed cases of infection, it is in young people between 20 and 29 years (men and women) that there were more cases, with 426 more infected in the last 24 hours.

The following are the age groups between 10 and 19 years old (323 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years old (295 new cases).

Data released by the DGS also show that there are 1,494 fewer active cases, totalling 44,087, and that 3,389 people were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 976,097 recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,743 people have died in Portugal and 1,037,927 cases of infection have been registered.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 619 new infections, counts so far 402,852 cases and 7,588 deaths.

In the Northern region, 744 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 399,633 cases of infection and 5,509 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 292 more cases, accumulating 138,294 infections and 3,093 deaths.

In the Alentejo, another 82 cases were reported, totalling 37,257 infections and 1006 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 141 more cases, accumulating 39,641 infections and 434 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 21 new cases, totalling 11,709 infections and 72 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have nine new cases, accounting for 8,541 cases and 41 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,306 were men and 8,437 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,589 were over 80 years old, 3,802 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,609 were between 60 and 69 years old.
