According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), 621 people are currently hospitalised with Covid-19, 135 of which are in intensive care units.

Most of the new cases (662) were registered in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, followed by the North, with 562 new infections.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (5), in the North region (2) and in the Centre region (3).

Regarding the ages of the victims, seven were over 80 years old, two between 70 and 79 years old and another between 60 and 69 years old.

Data released by the DGS also show that there are fewer 245 active cases, totalling 39,665, and that 2013 people were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 993,228 recovered.

New confirmed cases of infection are registered in greater number among young people between 20 and 29 years of age, with 341 more cases in the last 24 hours.

The following are the age groups between 10 and 19 years old (293), between 30 and 39 years old (252 new cases), between 40 and 49 years old (251 new cases) and up to nine years old (193).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,826 people have died in Portugal and 1,050,719 cases of infection have been registered.

The region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley has so far accounted for 407,036 cases and 7,621 deaths.

In the Northern region, 404,102 cases of infection and 5,523 deaths have been registered since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Central region, 274 more cases were registered in the last 24 hours, accumulating 140,291 infections and 3,110 deaths.

In the Alentejo, another 88 cases were reported, totalling 37,850 infections and 1,010 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 158 new cases, accumulating 40,934 infections and 449 deaths.

The autonomous region of Madeira has registered 21 new cases, totalling 11,899 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have 13 new cases, accounting for 8,607 cases and 41 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 564,900 women and 485,077 men, revealing data from the DGS, according to which there are 742 cases of unknown sex, which came under investigation, since this information is not automatically computerized.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,343 were men and 8,483 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 11,639 were over 80 years old, 3,816 were between 70 and 79 years old and 1,623 were between 60 and 69 years old.
