Prepared by the Observatory of Emigration, a research center of ISCTE (Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), the document reports a “stabilization of the volume of Portuguese emigration”, indicating that in 2019 around 80,000 Portuguese left Portugal, a number similar to the year previous and slightly lower than the 85,000 that left in 2017.
In 2019, the number of Portuguese entries in the United Kingdom totalled 24,593, 30.3 percent more than in 2018, an increase that “was more marked than in the total number of migrants in the United Kingdom (+ 21 percent)”.
The report, presented during a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Lisbon, highlights the increase in emigration to the United Kingdom, "contrary to the downward trend seen since 2015".
