The highest number of daily cases had been previously been reached on October 30, when 4,656 new infections were recorded in 24 hours.
However, on November 4, 7,497 new cases of infection were registered when the sum of 3,570 cases was included in the count, due to the delay in laboratory reporting, mainly from a laboratory in the North region, since October 30.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has recorded 2,793 deaths and 166,900 cases of infection, with 70,354 cases being active today, 3,197 more than on Thursday.
DGS indicates that of the 52 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 25 occurred in the North region, 13 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, eight in the Centre region and six in the Alentejo.
Regarding hospital admissions, the bulletin reveals that 2,425 people are hospitalised (63 more than on Thursday) and 340 people are in intensive care (plus 20).
The bulletin also states that health authorities have 79,689 contacts under surveillance, more than 12,247 compared to Thursday, and that 2,301 patients were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours, a total of 93,754 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The North region has the highest number of new cases, with 3,006 reported in the last 24 hours, totalling 78,461 and 1,248 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 1,495 new cases of infection were reported, accounting for a total overall of 65,869 cases and 1,090 deaths.
In the Centre region there were 676 more cases, accounting for an overall total of 15,045 infections and 349 deaths.
In the Alentejo, 194 new cases of covid-19 were registered, totalling 3,312 and 60 dead.
The Algarve region has today reported 156 more cases of infection, totalling 3,285 cases and 29 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 19 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, adding up to 413 infections detected and 15 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Madeira recorded four cases in the last 24 hours, accounting for 511 infections and one death.
Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.
The new coronavirus has already infected at least 75,665 men and 91,235 women in Portugal, according to the declared cases.
Of the total fatalities, 1,432 were men and 1,360 women.
The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in people over 80 years of age.
