“Once again, we were able to incorporate relatively simple measures and comply with what was stipulated”, said Graça Freitas during the press conference about the covid-19 pandemic in Portugal.
For the director general, the two days with curfew starting at 1:00 pm went as expected and the eventual risk that the measure would increase the concentration of people in spaces was not verified.
“It's just adapting to a new way of being in the coming weeks. I do not think that any situation has occurred that has put the population at special risk”, she explained.
Asked about the actions to contest the measures of the state of emergency due to the impact they have on some sectors of the economy, namely restaurants and culture, Graça Freitas underlined the freedom of people to speak out.
"But we would like this freedom to be exercised safely", she added, commenting on the non-compliance with physical distance and the use of a mask by some people during the protests due to the new restrictions. Restaurants are only allowed to be open until 1:00pm during the weekend in the stipulated municipalities, which has considerable losses to the sector.

I went out from my house for a walk in Albufiera today. Since excercise is one of the reasons that makes it OK to leave home.
(And I did not take my care to the workshop. Since that is not a valid reason, I cancelled my booking)
But..... I could not see any difference in the amount of cars and people, compared to normal.
Does anyone care about this "Stay at home" ?

Haven't we heard all this before waaaaay back in March, implementing 'short term' measures.
Here we go again, slowly slowly they're removing more of our 'freedom'.

Clearly, too many people have forgotten why these restrictions are in place, the Government is clearly trying to balance the rights and needs of society while protecting us all from the virus. Only time will tell if they have got it right but what they are not doing is using the virus to steal any rights or liberties of the population. Oh, and those people in America making comment, perhaps you should get your own house in order first....

Too bad the US doesn’t comply with limiting gatherings and wearing masks as cases have risen astronomically. Maybe it’s not “30 years of dictatorship that have trained people to comply” in Portugal. Possibly it’s because the Portuguese care more about the health of their fellow citizens. Good luck, Portugal, I hope to be living there soon!
