The DGS bulletin also reveals that 6,344 people are hospitalised, 96 more than on Sunday, of which 877 are in intensive care units - 12 more.
This is the lowest number of new cases registered in Portugal since December 28, when the country had 2,093 new infections daily. It is also noted that on Monday’s values are usually lower.
Today's data also reveals that 6,755 people were reported to have recovered, bringing the number of recovered to 612,921 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020.
For eight consecutive days, the number of recoveries has exceeded that of new infections.
The number of active cases in Portugal is also in decline. There are 140,644 people with the active virus, 4,446 less compared to Sunday, and the lowest figure since January 19, when 135,841 were registered.
The number of deaths today is also the lowest since 18 January, when 167 deaths occurred.
Health authorities have 180,905 contacts under surveillance, 6,535 fewer than the previous day. This indicator has also recorded a consistent decline since January 30th.
Regarding the 196 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 100 occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 38 in the Centro region, 32 in the North region, 19 in the Alentejo, four in the Algarve region and three in the Autonomous region of Madeira.
In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 1,760 new infections were reported, accounting for 286,665 cases and 5,790 deaths so far.
Lisbon and the Tagus Valley today have 70.2% of the total new cases at national level and half of the deaths registered in the last 24 hours (51%).
The North region recorded 379 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 in the last 24 hours and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already registered 317,428 cases of infection and 4,849 deaths.
In the Centre region, 177 more cases were recorded, with a total of 109,402 infections and 2,559 deaths.
In the Alentejo, 60 more cases were reported, totalling 26,999 infections and 813 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.
The Algarve region has today reported 61 new cases, totalling 18,775 infections and 264 deaths.
Madeira registered 58 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 5,027 infections and 53 deaths due to covid-19.
In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 10 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, totalling 3,623 infections and 26 deaths.
Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.
Of the total fatalities, 7,477 were men and 6,877 women.
The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
Of the total of 14,158 deaths, 9,622 were people over 80 years old, 2,964 aged between 70 and 79 years old and 1,226 were between 60 and 69 years old.
