Portugal and Luxembourg create fund to support cinema and audiovisual

The creation of this fund, to which applications can be submitted since 12 July, aims to "encourage co-production between producers from both countries", who "share the same vision of European cinematographic and audiovisual creation and diffusion", reads protocol.

This "new cooperation instrument" will have a pilot period between 2021 and 2022, with "possible extension in 2023", with the participation of the ICA and the Film Fund Luxembourg, which participate with 100,000 € each.

Independent producers established in Portugal and Luxembourg can apply to the fund to co-produce a feature film or a fiction or animation series, with "cultural content with the potential to interest the public in both countries".

Each project will receive a maximum of 50,000 €.

"The two countries are linked by particularly intense relations of cooperation and friendship, also by the numerous Portuguese-speaking community or those of Portuguese origin established in Luxembourg for decades," the two institutes underline in the protocol.

The document that creates this Luso-Luxembourg fund was signed by the heads of the two institutes last week during the Cannes Film Festival, in France.
This year's ICA financial support calendar also includes a support program for co-production between Portugal and France, with a total allocation of 300,000 €, which is currently in the application analysis phase.
