The store, which officially opened on 8 September, is the largest in the country and covers a total area of 1,300 square metres while employing 40 staff.
With this latest store, the number of Aldi supermarkets in Albufeira alone rises to five, taking the total to 15 in the Algarve and 97 across the country.
Located near to Praça Monumental, the new supermarket also has parking for 190 vehicles, and a warehouse measuring around 400 square metres.
“Exploring this format that privileges simplicity and space efficiency, through a two-storey construction, allowed us to have a stand-alone store with proximity characteristics, in Albufeira. In addition to the high population density, Albufeira was where we opened one of our first stores and it is a city where people already know us. On the other hand, Albufeira is visited, seasonally, by thousands of tourists who already know our brand from other countries and, therefore, continues to have great growth potential”, said João Braz Teixeira, expansion managing director of Aldi Portugal, in a press release.
On the same day, the brand also reopened the renovated and expanded Setúbal store.
Can't believe that we need another Aldi only 2.5km from the other one on the same road. Surely Albufeira has enough supermarkets now? 8 large supermarkets and counting!!!

Better than those dark, dirty grocery shops which are a health hazard and should have been closed down or remodelled 50 years ago!

I'm interested to see how the prices compare to the UK Aldi stores, as I shop there every week and know all the prices. Also it would be nice to see what different Aldi products there are in Portugal that we don't have in the UK.
