According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released today, 528 people are now hospitalised, five more than on Thursday, of which 79 are in intensive care units, seven more than in the last 24 hours.
The five deaths – one woman and four men – were registered in the Centre (two), in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (one), in the North (one) and in Madeira (one).
According to the DGS bulletin, in the last 24 hours, the highest number of infections occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, with 900 notifications, accounting for this geographical area, since the beginning of the pandemic crisis, 430,577 cases and 7,776 deaths.
In the North region, there were 592 more cases, totalling 423,000 and 5,625 deaths.
In the Central region, 458 new cases were registered, making a total of 153,112 infections and 3,220 deaths.
The Algarve reported over 225 cases, accumulating 46,167 infections and 496 deaths.
In the Alentejo, 91 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 41,180 infections and 1,056 deaths.
According to the DGS, the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded, in the last 24 hours, one death per covid-19 and 63 new cases, totalling 13,618 infections and 80 deaths.
The Azores registered 42 new cases, totalling 9,797 infections and 47 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
In the last 24 hours, there were more than 1,136 active cases, totalling 42,271 since the beginning of the pandemic, and another 1,230 recovered, which increases the national total to 1,056,880 people.
Compared to Thursday, health authorities have over 2,628 contacts under surveillance, now totalling 40,713.
The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 517,996 men and 598,686 women, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 769 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically .
