According to the weekly report, the total number of cases in the last week represents a variation of over 4,175 cases, with the incidence at 188 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of 28% compared to the previous week.

The 36 deaths represent a decrease of 10 cases compared to the previous week and the mortality per million inhabitants was three, a decrease of 22%.

Hospital admissions on the continent fell, with a total of 499 admissions in the last week, 60 less than the previous week, and 39 admissions to intensive care units, a figure equal to the previous week.

According to the DGS weekly epidemiological report, by region, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo recorded 6,478 cases between 16 and 22 August, 1,271 more cases than in the previous period, and eight deaths, less eight.

The North region accounted for 5,344 cases (plus 1,397) and 14 deaths (plus five) and the Center totalled 4,375 infections (plus 1,504) and five deaths (minus nine).

In the Algarve, 935 positive cases were recorded (23 less) and three deaths (the same number as last week) and in the Alentejo there were 700 infections by SARS-CoV-2 (25 more) and four deaths (three more).

As for the autonomous regions, the Azores had 871 new infections between 16 and 22 August (83 more), and one death (one more than the previous week, while Madeira recorded 611 cases (82 less) and one death (two less), according to DGS data.
