"Sporting Clube de Portugal fights daily to eradicate discriminatory behaviour, including racism, and considers that events such as those seen in Oliveira de Azeméis as intolerable and cannot go unpunished", said Sporting through their official website.
The 'lions' indicate that the Portuguese Basketball Federation and UD Oliveirense “must be concerned about following the same path, fighting for better sport and for a better world”.
North American winger Micah Downs, from Sporting, denounced, through Twitter, what happened in the pavilion and asked if the Federation would take measures.
“What happened tonight was disgusting. @UDObasket fans yelling and gesturing extreme racism. Calling my teammates monkeys. What are you going to do about it @fpbasquetebol ????”
Thank you Micah for speaking up. We will be joining you shortly in Portugal as we can no longer tolerate what is happening in the US. Too bad problems exist everywhere, but it takes people like you to call it out and keep it from growing. That didn't happen with the last US "President" and look where it led us.
Go Zags!
