One of the goals of the initiative is to “submit to the Municipal Assembly the immediate suspension of authorisation for new registrations of local accommodation establishments, for a period of six months, without prejudice to its renewal for an equal period, until the entry into force of the amendment to the Municipal Regulation of Local Accommodation”.
The measure is expected to be applied “in homogeneous tourist areas, under monitoring, with a ratio between the number of local accommodation establishments and the number of permanent dwellings equal to or greater than 2.5%, as well as in the rest of the city, where there is a ratio between the number of local accommodation establishments and the number of permanent dwellings is equal to or greater than 2.5%, without prejudice to the containment zones in force", according to proposal of those elected by the “Mais Lisboa” coalition, fulfilling what was recommended in the PS/Livre electoral program on the 26th of September, in which the socialist Fernando Medina lost the presidency of the municipal executive to the social democrat Carlos Moedas.
A PS source clarified that the proposal "provides that while this discussion is taking place (six months) new licenses will not be accepted in parishes where the number of houses in AL exceeds 2.5% of the housing stock".
"Current limitations, such as banning permits in the city's seven historic districts, remain in effect during this process," they added.
The Portuguese economy is so strong after 2 years of Covid that the capital needs no more tourists.
