The daily epidemiological bulletin from the DGS also registers a new increase in the number of hospitalised people, totalling 1,034 admissions today, 63 more than on Wednesday, 144 in intensive care units, less seven in the last 24 hours.

Of the 16 deaths, six occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, four in the Algarve, three in the North, two in the Centre and one in the Alentejo.

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo continue to be the region with the most new cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours, totaling 13,755, followed by the North (5,768), the Centre (3,202), Alentejo (935), Madeira (563) ), the Algarve (549) and the Azores (246).

Compared to the previous day, health authorities have over 17,018 contacts under surveillance, totalling 159,965 people.

According to data from the DGS, the majority of daily deaths continue to be registered among the elderly over 80 years old, a total of nine, followed by the age group from 70 to 79, with five deaths registered, with two deaths still occurring among 50 and 59 years old.

The greatest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old (12,288), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (4,098) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,742 ).

The largest number of new diagnosed cases is in the age group between 20 and 29 years old (5,741 followed by the groups between 40 and 49 years old (5,290), between 30 and 39 years old (4,775), between 50 and 59 years old (4,230 ), between 10 and 19 years old (3,352), from 60 to 69 years old (2,231), up to 9 years old (1,581), from 70 to 79 years old (951) and elderly people over 80 years old (508).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo has registered 530,439 cases and 7,968 deaths.

In the North region there were 496,660 infections and 5,768 deaths and the Central region now has a cumulative total of 192,755 infections and 3,357 deaths.

The Algarve has 58,082 infections and 583 deaths and the Alentejo has 47,910 cases and 1,087 deaths due to covid-19.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Autonomous Region of Madeira has 21,014 infections and 123 deaths, and the Azores archipelago has 11,957 cases and 51 deaths.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

In Portugal, since March 2020, 18,937 people have died, 9,946 among men and 8,991 among women.
