The daily update from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) identified 52,549 new cases of Covid-19, the maximum number of infections recorded in a single day, which brings the total number of infected people since the beginning of the pandemic to more than two million. Today’s bulletin also indicates that, in the last 24 hours, 33 people died from the disease, taking the total number of deaths in Portugal since the beginning of the pandemic up to 19,413.

The average incidence in the national territory is 4,490.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the risk of transmissibility (Rt) has dropped to 1.11.

The majority of those infected continue to recover at home, with the number of people hospitalised with Covid-19 remaining largely unchanged. Currently, 1,959 patients are admitted to hospital wards (four more in the last 24 hours), of which 153 are in intensive care units (7 less).

The bulletin reports a total of 1,627,279 recovered, 28,825 more than in the previous balance. At the moment, there are 356,477 active cases in Portugal, 23,691 more than on Tuesday.

There are still 359,893 people under surveillance by the health authorities, having had contact with confirmed cases of Covid-19, that is, 34,939 more compared to the previous balance.
