In a note published on the Marvão Chamber page on the social network Facebook, it is mentioned that the gastronomic fortnight will take place between the 12th and 27th of this month with the aim of "boosting and recognising the importance" of the olive grove and the olive oil sector in the municipality.
"This year, the event will be held again in the traditional way, after an interregnum in 2021 caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the initiative to migrate to online and social networks," the note can be read.
According to the municipality, during the gastronomic fortnight, the restaurants of the municipality of Marvão will have a "special menu" in which olive oil will be the "king".
Açorda alentejana, codfish with "lagareiro" style chickpea cover, "fraca tostada em azeite", "alhada de cação", octopus couvada or olive oil delight are some of the delicacies that can be tasted in the participating restaurants.
The 17th edition of Comidas d'Azeite also has a parallel programme to the restaurants, which includes activities such as guided tours to olive oil mills, an olive oil tasting, a new olive oil market and a showcooking.
In addition to these actions, the municipality will also promote the second edition of the "Conversas d'Azeite", an initiative that aims the "sharing of knowledge" among experts in the olive oil sector of the Alto Alentejo.
Quoted in the note, the Mayor of Marvão, Luís Vitorino (PSD), explains that the municipality "recognises the excellent olive oil production" that exists in the region and, therefore, "continues to cherish and promote" this type of initiatives.
"Marvão has the best endogenous soil and olive grove conditions for olive oil production and, therefore, we want to continue to be recognised as a reference of knowledge and quality," he adds.
The municipality also recalls that the county is included in the production area of the Azeites do Norte Alentejano DOP (Protected Designation of Origin), which has "contributed" to affirm the region as a "producer of olive oil of excellence".
"The quality of the Galician olives, born in the olive trees of the imposing Serra de São Mamede, is another of the fundamental factors to ensure the production of an excellent olive oil in the municipality of Marvão," the note also reads.
