The man was identified for holding endangered species of animals listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the GNR said in a statement.

"Following a complaint about the transport of several species listed in CITES, without the proper authorisation, elements of the NPA [Núcleo de Proteção Ambiental] went to the site and found that, in an annex adjacent to a house, there were 19 species of animals without their keeper being registered as a breeder in the national register," says the GNR.

According to the GNR, the man did not provide proof of origin, and so the animals - GNR does not say which ones - were seized.

The man was identified and the respective administrative offence notice was drawn up.

The enforcement action had the collaboration of elements of the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF).
