According to the daily epidemiological bulletin, 2,419 people are hospitalised today, 141 fewer than on Monday, while in intensive care units there are seven fewer, out of a total of 171, and not all hospitalisations are due to Covid-19.
On Sunday, 2,511 people were hospitalised, the highest figure since February 25 of last year.
The number of active cases decreased again today, with 599,997 now, 8,150 less than on Monday, and in the last 24 hours, 38,863 people were reported to have recovered, bringing the total to 2,343,448.
Of the 44 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 14 occurred in the North region, 12 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, nine in the Centre, six in the Algarve, two in Madeira and one in Alentejo.
Most of the fatalities with covid-19 were over 80 years old (29), with nine deaths between 70 and 79 years old and six between 60 and 69 years old.
The North continues to be the region of the country with the most new daily cases, with 10,725 more infections, followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 8,935 more, the Centre (6,710), the Alentejo (1,547), the Algarve (1,176) , the Azores (1,152) and Madeira (512).
In the last 24 hours, 10,014 fewer contacts were placed under surveillance, which now totals 655,520.
According to the DGS, since March 2020, 2,963,747 people have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Portugal and 20,302 deaths associated with covid-19 have been declared.
The largest number of new diagnosed cases is in the age groups between 40 and 49 years, with 5,251 new infections in the last 24 hours. This is followed by those aged between 10 and 19 (5,225 new infections), those aged between 30 and 39 (4,715), those aged between 20 and 29 (3,970), those aged between 50 and 59 (3,027), between 60 and 69 years old (2,172), between 70 and 79 years old (1,421) and elderly people over 80 years old (1,078).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 1,059,782 cases and 8,510 deaths.
In the North region, there were 1,144,795 infections and 6,175 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 431,483 infections and 3,579 deaths.
The Algarve has a total of 115,460 infections and 656 deaths and Alentejo has 100,469 cases and 1,140 deaths from covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has had 68,563 infections and 172 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and the Azores archipelago 43,195 cases and 70 deaths.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.
According to DGS, there were 1,384,890 cases of infection in men and 1,576,180 in women, with 2,677 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.
Since March 2020, 10,680 men and 9,622 women have died from Covid-19.
