According to the daily epidemiological bulletin, 1,501 people are hospitalised today, 59 less than on Thursday, while in intensive care units there are 98 people, eight less, although not all hospitalisations are due to Covid-19.
The number of patients in intensive care registered the lowest value in the last 24 hours since November 23, when 93 people were hospitalised in these units.
Also admissions to the ward today reached values similar to the beginning of January.
The number of active cases decreased today to 456,233, 12,301 fewer than on Thursday, and in the last 24 hours 22,645 people were reported to have recovered, for a total of 2,764,245 since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the last 24 hours, 10,061 contacts were no longer under surveillance, but health authorities still keep 438,633 people in these conditions.
Of the 32 deaths in the last 24 hours, 14 took place in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, seven in the Centre, six in the North, four in the Alentejo and one in the Azores, with no deaths recorded in the Algarve and Madeira.
By age group, 25 elderly people over 80 years old, seven people between 70 and 79 years old and one between 60 and 69 years old died.
Most of the new infections were diagnosed in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 3,559 infections, followed by the North, with 2,267 more, the Centre (2,123), the Azores (656), the Algarve (626), the Madeira (614) and the Alentejo (531)
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 1,147,896 cases and 8,709 deaths.
In the North region, there were 1,224,974 infections and 6,417 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 484,645 infections and 3,721 deaths.
The Algarve has a total of 132,585 infections and 626 deaths and Alentejo has 115,994 cases and 1,172 deaths from covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has had 77,246 infections and 185 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and the Azores archipelago 56,111 cases and 86 deaths.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.
According to DGS, 1,509,201 cases of infection were recorded in men and 1,729,369 in women, with 2,881 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.
Since March 2020, 11,032 men and 9,941 women have died from Covid-19.
