“In addition to an increase in prices, there will be a shortage of products, which leads to speculation, which in turn leads to a further increase. It is impossible to know how far the climb will go”, says the president of the Confederação dos Agricultores de Portugal (CAP), who added that there are farmers who will give up producing various seasonal crops, such as corn, vegetables and some fruits in order not to have any losses. “The stock of some products, such as flour for pasta, is so low that in a month or two we may have to go into rationing as happened in the 70s”, he said.
The vice-president of the Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies, Gonçalo Lobo Xavier, told Expresso, that for the time being, there are no production disruptions, “but there is an absolutely unprecedented price pressure”. The director-general of the Portuguese Association of Branded Product Companies, Pedro Pimentel, admits: “We can have in retail a scenario identical to queues at gas stations, with people buying non-perishable products in advance”. The president of the Food Bank against Hunger warns that “food shortages will reach a level that has not been seen for many years”.
Long term planning, emergency planning the Portuguese way. What else could be expected?

An unwelcome and unwarranted snide comment from K. Don't you know there's a war on? The whole global food supply is affected.

It is not only lack of planning regarding food shortages, but also in regard to forest management (why should random and systematic fires be considered "normal"), the lack of urban planning and the list goes on. While some may prefer to close their eyes and ignore this, there are others who do see the lack of quality in the Portuguese's life and think that the people deserve better.

At Intermarche, Idanha a Nova, they put a ration on Bread Flour (5 kilos per customer) and by 2pm yesterday, the shelves were empty. Also, the price was twice what it used to be.

Message to K: Hi, I have no idea if you can get a hold of a book by a Portuguese author that explains a lot of our Pt mentality (I search, nothing shows in terms of translations of this book to English or French). The original, in Portuguese is “Portugal, Hoje. O Medo de Existir. de José Gil. ISBN: 9789727089369 Editor: Relógio D'Água”. You´ll start to understand a lot, namely the reactions you get when you make your criticisms. Pt left dictatorship in 1974 yet a lot in Pt mentality has this ”Come back, Salazar, all is forgiven” attitude. The book is not a pleasant read-rather dry- but the content is crucial to understanding some things. Pb is, no translations? It would be a useful read for foreigners who decided to live here, I also recommend it to Portuguese ppl, since it explains A LOT. For what it´s worth, I know you care, K.

I live in the UK for years and I can add were also a very long list that all the bad planing and complete disorganisation that the UK been affected for years don't come saying that is a ideal and without any problems because their is plenty in your country and will be even more aggravated with the present incompetent government that you have . As far were the government is trying to improve things even they take some time to see the end result. As far the UK government the supposed programme leveling up is a complete mess without a concrete plan and neither will be enough to improve or even develop the supposed areas in need in the end it is a complete farce .

If someone critiques governments in 2021 are people still in such an archaic mentality that they defend the government by criticising the others government and arguing eye for an eye ? Surely buy now people have realised the insidious corruption of nearly every government on this planet and the fact they desire to exist mostly for the sake of the selfish benefits they obtain via their existence. Yes they do things for the people - but they do the basic they can get away with , while getting them and their business freinds absurdly rich in the process . We have far more in common as people - eg Portuguese and English folk rather then Portuguese and their gov or English and their gov . These governments are enemies of the common people and if you haven't worked that out yet in 2021 then its pretty hopeless for you . I am from Uk and I have always been sickened by the UK government especially showing their nasty hand during Cv with non stop lies and data fudging. But also in Pt for example in every day life I see unbelievable things like hard pushing experimental jabs on tiny kids and more mundane things like whacko road tolls, thats the govenment right there extorting you ( yes they are private - but guess what- the gov sold many of them and are taxing them hard anyway)- likewise in Uk there is insane joke rail ticket prices .
Realise your brothers and sisters are the common folk ( national or international ) and we an move forward finding ways to create independent systems of self reliance and sustainability and not by at the whims of government taxes / lockdowns/ self serving corruption .

Quite unbelievable that in 2022 there are people who think that only Portugal and the UK exist in the world.... On another note, people in Portugal should not bite the hand that feeds them.

today in Madeira..Continente supermarket there was a limit on cooking oil -3 bottles per client..I read about the EU report recently and they identified Portugal and Italy as hot spots for food shortages due to bad economy and drought in Portugal.
