In a statement, the Azores Tourism Association (ATA) explains that the weekly connection will take place on Sundays, between Schipol - Amsterdam airport and Ponta Delgada (São Miguel), as part of a "seasonal summer operation" that will take place "from April 24 to October 23, 2022".

The connection, according to the ATA, will be provided by "a Boeing 737-800 with 189 seats" and capable of carrying a total of "5,103 passengers to the region".

"This is another measure of the Azores Tourism Association (ATA), in partnership with ANA Aeroportos, Turismo de Portugal and the Government of the Azores, in the development and consolidation of air access to the archipelago, without which the tourist recovery would not be possible for the destination", underlines the Azores Tourism Association.

Strong Dutch market

ATA justifies “the strong bet” on the Netherlands as it is a market that is “sixth in the ranking of international markets that send tourists to the Autonomous Region of the Azores” and that in 2019 registered a total of “93,768 overnight stays”.

"With great interest and growing demand for nature destinations, where sustainability is the pillar of development of the travel and leisure sector, the Dutch tourist finds in the Azores the much sought after green and blue refuge".
