The vice president of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) has warned that 70% of the water that Portugal consumes comes from Spain through international rivers. However, the flows are decreasing, which is reflected in the water that reaches the country, reports Público.
The drought in Spain is “very bad news” for Portugal, said Pimenta Machado, vice president of the APA, anticipating “worrying” consequences for Portugal as early as next summer. “Atmospheric precipitation in Spain is very low and there is a lack of water in the reservoirs”, said the expert in a debate on Loss of water: the unsustainable reality.
Portugal should start seeking inspiration in countries like Qatar, Kuwait or Bahrein. It won't be long.
