“From this moment on – and although the process involves more steps and may take several weeks to complete, including the alteration of all the signage in the airport infrastructure – the new designation Aeroporto Gago Coutinho may begin to be used in aeronautical communication and in passenger information”, informed the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing.
In a statement, the Ministry’s office supervised by Pedro Nuno Santos notes that the process began on the same day, June 17, which marks 100 years since “the small single-engine seaplane manned by Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral completed the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic, from Portugal”.
Why change a name that everyone knows and is used to?
Will it improve the service, the product, the visibility of the airport among travelers?
A waste of energy, paper, signages and public resources.

At a time when there are so many important issues in the country, why is it necessary to spend so much money and time to change the airport name?, not to mention the confusion it will create.
A monument or statue of Gago would be suffice.
If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
Total waste of time and tax payer money.
