The information was confirmed by the Algarve Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command to Notícias ao Minuto, which also added that the plane had 164 people on board.

The same source reported that the airport was on red alert for "around half an hour", but that it has now been lifted and "the resources have already left the site".
Firefighters, the National Republican Guard (GNR), INEM, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and the Municipal Civil Protection Service were present at the scene.
The alert was given at 9:20 am.
