The circulation of the Metropolitano de Lisboa will be
interrupted on Sunday due to a strike by workers, with disruptions expected
from 23:00 on Saturday and the resumption of service only at 06:30 on Monday,
the company said.
The strike, between 00:00 and 24:00 on Sunday, was called by
the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions, against a lack of
working conditions and the 0.9% salary increases proposed by the administration,
among other reasons.
According to the union, the workers decided to maintain the
strike, scheduled a few weeks ago, despite the announcement by Metropolitano de
Lisboa that it has already started hiring train drivers and strengthening
maintenance teams.
Sunday's stoppage takes place on a day when the Rock in Rio
festival takes place at Parque da Bela Vista. In this regard, the organisation
indicated that it has created, together with the Lisbon City Council, more car
parks with 'shuttle' direct to the event venue.
Metropolitano de Lisboa operates daily with four lines:
Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa
Apolónia) and Red (Airport-São Sebastião). Normally, the metro runs between
06:30 and 01:00.
