The animal “was already adrift and being monitored” by the
Maritime Police teams, but around 18:30, “it ended up being washed onto” the
Algarve beach, where it was then monitored by the authorities, explained
Commander Rodrigo González dos Paços to Lusa agency.
The captain of the port of Portimão, which has jurisdiction
in the Albufeira area, said that they were "contacted by the Municipal
Civil Protection Service and with the Institute for the Conservation of Nature
and Forests [ICNF] ", whose technicians "will now proceed with analysis
to try to determine what happened and what was the cause of death”.
