Speaking to Lusa agency, the president of the LBP said that
the League is carrying out a survey of the INEM ambulances entrusted to
humanitarian associations and fire departments.
“We did a survey of the fire departments and the panorama is
not very good and shows how firefighters are being supported in the health
area. There are 20 or 30 municipalities in this country that are being
supported in emergency transport by ambulances in this state”, said António
Nunes.
According to the LBP, the survey showed that there are 31
INEM ambulances with more than 13 years old and with thousands of kilometres on
the clock.
“Of the 31 ambulances, 11 are 13 years old, 14 are 14 years
old, two are 15 years old, two are 16 years old, one is 18 years old and even
one is 21 years old. One of the 13-year-old ambulances has clocked up more than
one million kilometres, nine more have 500 thousand and 18 more have 400
thousand”.
“It is evident that most of these cases are ambulances that
are in the most disadvantaged counties. They are ambulances in which alternatives
are very scarce, they are corporations that only have two or three more
ambulances and these INEM ambulances are the ones that go out every day, for
example for road accidents ”, he said.
