Sigma
Software, which is a Swedish-Ukrainian IT company that already has
two offices in Portugal, will promote, together with Tech Nation UK,
the European hackhaton "hack for peace" that
will take place between 21 and 23 October in five countries - Portugal
being one of them.
According
to a statement sent by Sigma Software Group, the war shows that "nowadays
no one should feel safe. However, there are ways to better prepare for even the
most unthinkable events."
"The
threat of a Third World War is more real than ever. That is why today companies
are creating and updating their contingency plans, and governments are looking
for ways to be well-prepared for such threats (...) Technological products and
innovative solutions can help solve the problems associated with war,"
adds the statement.
Making
a difference
In
this regard, "Hack for Peace will empower those looking to make a
difference by contributing to the creation of anti-war technology
systems," it reads in the note.
The
organisers are expecting literally anyone, from mentors, entrepreneurs,
investors, IT professionals and anyone willing to come up with an idea for a
product that can boost peace on the European continent to participate in the
event.
Speaking
about the upcoming hackhaton, Valery Krasovsky, CEO and Co-founder of Sigma
Software Group said: "Hack for Peace is a unique European project that
will bring together developers, product managers, founders of startups and
investors to create transformative solutions to make the world a better and
safer place. In addition, we will invite investors and mentors who will guide
the teams in the right direction, where they can get the financial support to
launch their products."
Participation
is free of charge, but people willing to take part must register by 30
September. Participants will meet offline in various locations such as United
Kingdom, Sweden, Portugal, Poland and Ukraine, but will be connected to the
other locations online. In this way, they will be able to share ideas both in
person and online in the various countries where the event will be held.
For
"Hack for Peace” event, 300 registrations are expected, and the organisers
will give preference to participants who already have clear ideas.
The
winners will have the opportunity to put into practice their ideas and create
products with the guidance of investors and mentors. To do so,
participants will have to dedicate themselves to one of four fields:
information security; mental health; kid's education; and war logistics.
