Speaking to Lusa, the president of the National Union of
Municipal Police (SNPM), Pedro Oliveira, explained that he “counts on a
membership of 90% and on the participation in Lisbon of about 500 agents”,
adding that he has “five full buses”.
Currently, there are around 900 municipal police officers
working in 37 municipalities across the country.
According to the unionist, agents feel “disrespected and
belittled”, since “their professional career is not being valued, remembering
that professionals “are working with a salary that is only seven euros from the
minimum wage".
The president of the SNPM accuses the different governments
of “forgetting” these agents, contrary to what happens with other professional
groups.
