“The Council of Ministers has approved the opening of the
procedure for launching the new Hospital Central do Algarve”, revealed the
prime minister, during the general policy debate.
The news was given in response to the deputy from Chega,
Pedro Pinto, who replied saying that he is “very pleased that the works at
Hospital do Algarve” are advancing, recalling that “several prime ministers
have already laid the first stone at the Hospital do Algarve and it has never
advanced”. “Interestingly all socialists,” he added.
Later, the statement from the Council of Ministers clarified
that the construction and equipment of the Hospital building will be through a
“new public-private partnership”.
The construction of the new Algarve Central Hospital is a
topic that has been discussed for several years, with former Prime Minister
José Sócrates laying the foundation stone for the construction, as TSF recalls.
However, the process began many years earlier, in 2002, when
Durão Barroso was the prime minister and Luís Filipe Pereira was the minister
of health. In May of this year, Parliament approved the PS proposal for the
Government to ensure the procedure for the construction and equipment of the
new Central Hospital of the Algarve.
