"The crime rates in 2022, when compared to 2019, give
us confidence in this direction. Despite a slight increase in general crime by
1.3 percent, violent and serious crime decreased by 5.3 percent",
explained José Luís Carneiro, during the specialist appraisal of the State
Budget proposal for 2023 (OE2023).
In his opening speech, the minister maintained that this
budget proposal aims to support "Portugal's intention to continue to be
one of the safest countries in the world, despite the demanding and uncertain
external context" that we are experiencing.
In this sense, the official noted that, compared to 2022,
the internal administration budget for 2023 "grows by 220 million euros,
for a total of 2,601 million euros".
