Municipalities, “as transport authorities”, will have the
possibility “to enter into agreements, embodied in inter-administrative
contracts of delegation or sharing of competences, to organise the market for
taxi transport services, at an inter-municipal level”.
The information is contained in the final report written by
the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) at the end of 2021 and which has only
now been made public after a request from the Liberal Initiative, reports
Público. The IMT also advocates the evaluation, every two years, of the maximum
number of licenses allocated (contingent), in order to make “the necessary
adjustments between supply and demand”.
The new legislation on the taxi sector is expected to come
into force in 2023, according to the State Budget report for next year. Also in
2023, the new rules for the transport of passengers in uncharacterised
vehicles, known as the “Uber law”, should come into force.
