“We registered 100 occurrences
during the night, in addition to those already verified yesterday [Thursday].
At the moment, we have recorded 2,093 occurrences, mainly associated with
flooding in urban buildings, in particular in basements, or on the ground
floor, whether commercial or residential buildings", Pedro Araújo from
ANEPC told Lusa.
This morning, the
districts of Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, Setúbal, and Faro remain on an orange weather
warning due to the forecast of heavy rain, the second most serious of the
Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
The same source added
that in the last few hours there had been no record of evacuees, nor of victims
resulting from flooding.
According to Pedro
Araújo, Lisbon was the district with the most occurrences, with 464 registered,
followed by Setúbal with 151, Santarém 87, Leiria 63, and Faro 53.
"We still have a
set of occurrences to be intervened by civil protection agents, in particular
by municipal civil protection services, by municipal responses, and by fire
departments with water drainage and road cleaning operations. These occurrences
were verified mostly in the district of Lisbon, which has the bulk of
occurrences, but also in the districts of Leiria, Setúbal, Santarém, and Faro,
which are those that concentrate the highest number of interventions", he
said.
All districts on the mainland are under a yellow warning until 3pm today due to the forecast of sometimes heavy rain, which may be accompanied by thunder and strong gusts of wind.
