“The people voted 8 months ago, they haven't voted much longer, we are in a war and economic and financial crisis. Thirdly, it is not clear that there would be an immediate and strong alternative to what exists”, maintained Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
For the Head of State, “the country needs to take more advantages” than inconveniences from the dissolution of parliament, stressing that “experimentalism is not the best thing for democracies”.
“We had elections not even a year ago, we can't have elections every year, we can't, every time there are ministerial reshuffles or team replacements, even if due to problems that are perhaps more sensitive to a part of public opinion or public opinion in general, to be resorting to dissolution”, he defended.

We have a President that might as well have come from the Dark Ages: Rape becoming a crime, when? NEVER (petition asking for this has been around FOR YEARS). When there were Presidential elections and he decided to run for 2nd term, he said “It´s not a good idea to switch Presidents in the middle of a Pandemic”. Mr. Rebelo de Sousa, ““We are all conscious that certain things have not gone as well”, he attempted to intercede as reporters held their microphones over the swirling melée. “In a democracy there can be 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% of people who understand that there are things that take time to change. Some very good points Guida; as an outsider (for now) I always appreciate your detailed insight. Rape is not a crime!!! Yes, the Dark Ages for sure yet so progressive in other areas like drugs. A solution of course is a mammoth undertaking and although I agree with many of your posts I am hesitant for a snap election UNLESS another party has a better plan that they can lay out in writing for the Portuguese people to access. Elections cost a lot of $ and it was true, you needed cohesion, not chaos during the pandemic. Is there a political party there that promises to secure a fair and just future for all like Obama tried to do (no scandals there) and Biden is working at now? Can you suggest a party to keep an eye on for the next election. Your president did get elected again by a majority of your people so he must be doing something right I hope. Please mention a party or several that you think have "The Plan." Thanks
